About Brad
I’m Brad Chittenden, a specialist gynaecologist and fertility specialist based in Tauranga. I work in private practice, caring for women with a wide range of gynaecological and fertility concerns.
My aim is to provide specialist care that is thorough, practical and easy to understand. I like to give patients enough time to explain what is going on, work through the problem carefully and discuss the available options clearly.
Experience and training
Brad completed his initial medical training in South Africa before continuing his specialist training in the United Kingdom. During this time, he developed a particular interest in advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgery, training under leading specialists in the field and completing advanced laparoscopic training certified by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Minimally invasive surgery
He has extensive experience in the laparoscopic treatment of a wide range of gynaecological conditions, including endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids and hysterectomy.
Brad believes that treatment should be tailored to the individual woman rather than to a particular procedure. For women experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding, for example, he can offer a broad range of treatment options, from medical management and less invasive procedures through to myomectomy or laparoscopic hysterectomy when appropriate.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis is another major area of Brad’s practice. More complex disease can involve the bowel, bladder or urinary tract as well as the reproductive organs. When required, Brad works collaboratively with colorectal and urological surgeons so that women with complex endometriosis can receive coordinated multidisciplinary care.
Fertility Medicine
Alongside his surgical practice, Brad works extensively in fertility medicine. This combination of fertility and gynaecological expertise allows him to consider not only how best to treat a condition, but also its potential implications for fertility and future reproductive plans.
His approach is straightforward: take the time to understand the problem, explain the options clearly, and help each patient choose the treatment that best suits her circumstances.
